Werkstätte Carl Auböck is a multigenerational Viennese design workshop. Karl Heinrich Auböck, also known as Carl Auböck I (1872–1925), established the family metal workshop and became known for finely crafted bronze objects. Carl Auböck II (1900–1957) continued the workshop and introduced modernist ideas informed by his studies at the Bauhaus, while Carl Auböck III (1924–1993), an architect and industrial designer, expanded its design vocabulary and international orientation. Across these generations, the workshop developed a distinctive body of functional objects characterized by precise craftsmanship, inventive use of materials and understated wit.

A rare, curved and large Art Deco storage box, jewelry box, or cigarette dispenser featuring a roll-top lid with a small brass handle, dating from the 1930s. This is an early design by Carl Auböck I, crafted in the 1930s by Werkstätten Auböck in Vienna, Austria. This particular piece is a larger version, handmade from wood and nickel-plated brass. It is well preserved and remains in very good original condition. The roll-top glides smoothly. There is some wear to the nickel plating, which we prefer to view not as a flaw, but as a charming, age-related sign of character.
