Amboss Austria was a Viennese manufacturer of modernist stainless-steel flatware and table objects. The company became especially known during the 1950s and 1960s for sculptural cutlery designs that combined functionality with restrained Austrian modernism. Important series include Helmut Alder’s model 2050 and the Maestro model 2060 by Carl Auböck.
Helmut Alder was an Austrian industrial designer associated with postwar modernist metalwork. He created several successful flatware patterns for Amboss Austria, beginning with model 2050 in 1954. His designs are distinguished by clear outlines, balanced proportions and the precise use of brushed and polished stainless steel.
