Werkstätte Carl Auböck
Werkstätte Carl Auböck
Werkstätte Carl Auböck is a multigenerational Viennese design workshop. Karl Heinrich Auböck, also known as Carl Auböck I (1872–1925), established the family metal workshop and became known for finely crafted bronze objects. Carl Auböck II (1900–1957) continued the workshop and introduced modernist ideas informed by his studies at the Bauhaus, while Carl Auböck III (1924–1993), an architect and industrial designer, expanded its design vocabulary and international orientation. Across these generations, the workshop developed a distinctive body of functional objects characterized by precise craftsmanship, inventive use of materials and understated wit.

A sleek, elegant Mid-Century Modern brass shoehorn with black leather detail, model no. 4225, designed and handcrafted by Werkstätte Carl Auböck in Vienna, Austria. This is a vintage original from the 1950s, not a contemporary reissue. Made of solid brass, with a black leather-wrapped and stitched handle that looks great and, thanks to its weight and feel, sits nicely in the hand. And by the way, it's also very decorative ;-) We carefully hand-polished the brass. The shoehorn is in good condition, with a nice patina on the brass, the kind that only develops over decades. Marked, see photo. We think this is a rare piece – at least we haven't come across one in 15 years. Length 9", width 2", height 2".
