Werkstätte Carl Auböck is a multigenerational Viennese design workshop. Karl Heinrich Auböck, also known as Carl Auböck I (1872–1925), established the family metal workshop and became known for finely crafted bronze objects. Carl Auböck II (1900–1957) continued the workshop and introduced modernist ideas informed by his studies at the Bauhaus, while Carl Auböck III (1924–1993), an architect and industrial designer, expanded its design vocabulary and international orientation. Across these generations, the workshop developed a distinctive body of functional objects characterized by precise craftsmanship, inventive use of materials and understated wit.

A beautiful brass figure called "optimist / pessimist", model #4059, designed by Carl Auböck back in 1957. A very charming object, which can be positioned in two ways, as an optimist or pessimist. Please see the video. Handmade of solid patinated brass by Werkstätte Auböck in Vienna / Austria. Partly polished, fully stamped and marked. This is a handcrafted piece; each piece and finish will differ slightly. Small nicks on the surface are evidence of the handmade production process and should not be considered defects.
